The Los Angeles Dodgers became just the second team since 1960 to sweep Major League Baseball's regular season wins leader in the first round of the post-season.
On Saturday the Dodgers took an early 2-0 lead and never let up against the Chicago Cubs who will now head into the offseason championshipless for the 100th straight year.
First baseman James Loney drove in two runs that would make up the scoreboard for most of the game before the game closed at 3-1.
The Joe Torre-led Los Angeles club had the worst record of the eight MLB post-season teams this year.
With the win the Dogers will now face the winner of the Philadelphia Phillies/Milwaukee Brewers series.
Prior to the Dodgers sweep in LA, the Milwaukee Brewers used home field to their advantage, pulling out a slim victory over the Phillies.
Despite coming close in the ninth, a Shane Victorino brain fart combined with a crafty double-play spoiled the Phillies plans to battle back, as they fell 4-1.
