WBO champion Enzo Maccarinelli (28-1, 21 KO's) says he's ready for his late-night title unification bout with WBC and WBA champion David Haye (20-1, 19 KO's) on Saturday, March 8.
"It's a fight that I've always wanted and I'm in this for the glory," Maccarinelli tells The Canadian Press. "I have done all my training, my mind is strong, my body is strong. I'm ready to fight, I'm ready for war."
A +145 underdog in the Bodog Sportsbook, the Welsh fighter is scheduled to meet Haye in London, England at 2 a.m local time for a cruiserweight fight that will be broadcast in North America at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
Maccarinelli is riding a wave of confidence. Unbeaten in has last 25 bouts, he has fought for world titles in 13 of his past 15 fights and comes from the same training camp as super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe.
Looking towards the fight with Haye, he predicts a short night, but says he is prepared for anything.
"I don't think it will be a long fight and go 12 rounds," Maccarinelli explains, "but stranger things have happened. I haven't gone in the gym to train for six, seven rounds, I've gone in to train for 12 gruelling rounds. But if it goes early it's done."
Currently the -175 favorite, Haye is also predicting a short night.
"If he's lucky enough to hear the bell for the end of the first round and goes back to his corner for the second, he will realize that I'm telling the truth," Haye says. "He will realize that he's going to get smashed to bits, slowly but surely."
