With the 6-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks the Dodgers can forget about their recent struggles as they fight to steal a playoff berth from the very team they defeated.

On the evening Ramirez went 4-5 at the plate including the aforementioned dingers, his 500th career double, and a single to boot while starting pitcher Chad Billingsley picked up the win.

Elsewhere in major league action Dustin Pedroia put together his second consecutive 4-4 night as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Chicago White Sox.

In National League action, the Philadelphia Phillies gained one game on the division-leading New York Mets as they completed a 4-3 victory over the Florida Marlins.

In the American League Central hunt both the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins dropped games on the day.
