The San Antonio Spurs were dealt a huge blow Friday as their star guard, Manu Ginobili, will undergo surgery to repair a ligament in his left ankle.

"They're going to operate on me," the he Argentina's La Nacion newspaper Friday.

Ginobili injured his ankle during the semi-final match versus the U.S. in the Beijing Olympics.

"It's the same as it was two months ago, when they did the first exam," he said. "It's not worse, which is important. Now, the thing is, it's not better either, and it seems like the only way to repair it completely is arthroscopic surgery."

This will be a blow to the Spurs' plans to reclaim their spot on top of the NBA, as he'll likely miss the first month of the NBA season.
