March Madness is in full swing, baby. How's that bracket looking now? The second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament starts now and with eight games on tap for Saturday, are you ready to put your college basketball betting skills to the test? Here are your matchups:
No. 3 Villanova vs. No. 6 UCLA
Dante Cunningham will undoubtedly lead the way for Villanova's offense, but UCLA's defense should be ready to step it up a notch and their offense has been hitting some impressively solid three-pointers. Still, oddsmakers like Villanova in this one.
No. 2 Duke vs. No. 7 Texas
Oddsmakers currently have the Blue Devils listed as 7½-point favorites versus the Longhorns, while the game's total is sitting at 140. A.J. Abrams led Texas with 26 points as they defeated Minnesota 76-62 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday. Duke, on the other hand, built up an early lead as they ran over Binghamton 86-62 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They covered the 22-point spread, but the combined score made it OVER the posted total of 137.
No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 8 LSU
Oddsmakers currently have the Tar Heels listed as 12½-point favorites versus the Tigers, while the game's total is sitting at 159.
No. 2 Oklahoma vs. No. 10 Michigan
Oddsmakers currently have the Sooners listed as 7-point favorites versus the Wolverines, while the game's total is sitting at 135.
No. 4 Gonzaga vs. No. 12 Western Kentucky
Western Kentucky produced a first-round NCAA upset by beating Illinois 76-72 last time out, as 5-point underdogs. That game's combined score made it OVER the posted total of 123.5. Meanwhile, Gonzaga trailed by three points at the half, but roared back to defeat Akron 77-64 in their first round matchup of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night. They failed to cover the 14-point spread, but the 141 points made it OVER the night's posted total of 134.
No. 2 Memphis vs. No. 10 Maryland
Oddsmakers currently have the Tigers listed as 10-point favorites versus the Terrapins, while the game's total is sitting at 132. Look for the big men on Memphis to make amends for their first round scare.
No. 1 Connecticut vs. No. 9 Texas A&M
Oddsmakers currently have the Huskies listed as 10-point favorites versus the Aggies, while the game's total is sitting at 137. Right now Texas lacks depth up front, but if Josh Carter and B.J. Holmes can nail those threes, this will be a closer game than most are predicting.
No. 4 Washington vs. No. 5 Purdue
Oddsmakers currently have the Huskies listed as 2-point favorites versus the Boilermakers, while the game's total is sitting at 140. This one should be an intense matchup, with both teams eager to control the tempo of the game. Some might say that the Huskies lack depth up front…and that could prove to be their downfall against the Boilermakers this afternoon.
