With just over one week remaining before the 2008-09 NHL campaign, it was announced that Anaheim Ducks defenseman Mathieu Schneider is on his way to Atlanta as part of a two-team, four-player deal.
Schneider, dumped by Ducks general manager Brian Burke in an attempt to preserve salary cap, will take his 39 points to a Thrashers team that finished second-last in the Eastern Conference last season.
In return for the 39-year-old vet, the Ducks acquired defenseman Ken Klee, Brad Larsen and prospect Chad Painchaud saving nearly $3M in contract obligations.
The addition of Schneider will bode well for Thrashers fans who also look forward to the debut of third-overall draft pick defenseman Zach Bogosian.
Also of note: Schneider first taste NHL action back in a 1987-88 campaign, three years before Bogosian was born.
