Led by a familiar combination of Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts, the number one-ranked Memphis Tigers brought an end to the Texas Longhorns' 2008 season.
With the 85-67 win, the Tigers advanced to the Final Four for the first time since 1985.
Leading the way for the victors was Douglas-Roberts who added 25 points, while freshman sensation and NBA-lock Rose added 21 points and nine assists.
Not only did the Tigers outshoot their foes from the field (50 percent to 36.2 percent), they out-shot them from the free throw line 36 attempts to nine. The Tigers connected on 30 of the attempts while Texas hit for eight.
Chipping in for Memphis was big man Joey Dorsey who added 13 points and 12 rebounds in the effort.
The stellar backcourt combination of D.J. Augustin and A.J. Abrams was not enough to lift the poor shooting Longhorns.
Abrams finished the bout with 17 points while Augustin added 16.
With the win, Memphis will advance to the Final Four next week where they will match up with the formidable Bruins of UCLA. The Tigers are the third number one-seed in as many regionals to earn their way to the national semifinals.
