Oliver Perez took the mound for the New York Mets hoping to pick up his second win of the season against the cross-town rival New York Yankees and came away quite satisfied.
Perez limited the Yankees to just three hits in seven innings of work picking up the win against Yankees starter Darrell Rasner.
With the win the Mets took the season series four games to two, their first season series victory since 2004 when they swept all three at Shea Stadium.
The Mets scored twice in the first three innings and walked away with the 3-1 victory.
Carlos Delgado and Wilson Betemit each homered for their respective teams.
Elsewhere in Sunday afternoon baseball Minnesota Twins right-hander Kevin Slowey blanked the Milwaukee Brewers in nine innings of work, 5-0, picking up eight strikeouts along the way. The Twins victory comes as revenge against the Brewers just a day after Milwaukee snapped an impressive ten-game Minnesota win streak.
Toronto Blue Jays erratic pitcher AJ Burnett had everything going for him as he shut out an Atlanta Braves team in seven innings. Burnett struck out eleven and took advantage of a sixth-inning Alex Rios RBI to put him in position for the win.
