Without the injured Brian McCann and Garret Anderson in the lineup to protect Chipper Jones, who's batting .333 this season and is 3-for-5 against scheduled starter Adam Wainwright, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa seems certain to continue taking the bat out of the slugger's hands.
Jones walked five times in the first two games of the series and in all four plate appearances Tuesday. One of those walks came in the eighth inning, and Jones came around to score the go-ahead run on Matt Diaz's two-run single in Atlanta's 2-1 victory.
While Atlanta (-115 favorites) tries to get on track offensively after scoring two runs in each of its last three games, it hopes Javier Vazquez continues his surprising early season success tonight.
Vazquez is 2-6 with a 4.01 ERA in nine starts against the Cardinals, last facing them in 2006. For all your MLB betting needs, be sure to check out the Bodog Sportsbook.
