Ace Jake Peavy will take the hill for the San Diego Padres this afternoon, looking to help his team bounce back from its first loss in a week in the finale of a three-game set with the New York Mets.

New York made sure it wouldn't fall to 0-2 at their new stadium on Wednesday when they broke open a one-run game by scoring four times in the seventh, with Carlos Delgado homering in the eighth to help seal a 7-2 win.

Delgado and company will have a more taxing challenge in the series finale with the Padres, facing Peavy, the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner. Peavy is 4-2 with a 3.32 ERA in nine career starts against the Mets.

John Maine will start for New York (-125 favorites) after a solid if shortened season debut Friday at Florida. Maine is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in two career starts against the Padres.
