Pedro Martinez tries to build on his first outing of the year when he makes his home debut tonight against the +165 underdog Arizona Diamondbacks.
In his first start for the Philadelphia Phillies, Martinez earned the win in Wednesday’s 12-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs, allowing three runs and seven hits with five strikeouts in five innings.
Martinez now tries to duplicate that performance at Citizens Bank Park, something that eluded him while pitching for the Mets. In four starts in Philadelphia with New York, Martinez went 1-1 with a 7.85 ERA.
Arizona, which has lost two straight after winning four of five, has dropped a season-high four in a row on the road. They will turn to Jon Garland, who is 1-5 with a 3.32 ERA in his last nine road starts.
Garland already lost to the Phillies in July, when he gave up six runs in six innings.
