The general opinion is that Octavio Dotel is on the downside of his career, apparently the Chicago White Sox don't feel that way.
The White Sox have signed 34-year-old Dotel to a $11 million contract to help with their struggling bullpen.
"What we needed to do was make sure we had a bridge to get the ball to Bobby," Sox GM Ken Williams said. "Now, I believe we've got multiple options — not just with Dotel but obviously Linebrink. I expect Matt Thornton to rebound and Mike MacDougal to rebound from disappointing years. We feel good about the quality. We feel good about the depth of our bullpen. We also feel good about the ability to not tax Bobby Jenks to the point where we wear him out."
Dotel spent last season with the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals but played only 33 games total because of a shoulder injury. He finished 2-1 with an 4.11 ERA.
