Another year, another collapse for the New York Mets. The Milwaukee Brewers (90-72, 6.89 units) won the National League Wild Card on Sunday in their last game of the regular season. They’ll face the NL East champion Philadelphia Phillies (92-70, 3.06 units) in the Division Series.
The Phillies swept the Brewers in four straight games earlier this month, outscoring Milwaukee 26-10. However, CC Sabathia was not involved in any of those games. That was also before the Brewers fired manager Ned Yost and replaced him with Dale Sveum, a move that proved popular in the clubhouse.
That’s the good news for Milwaukee. The bad news is that Ben Sheets has a bad elbow and couldn’t get through three innings against the Cubs on Saturday. The Phillies, meanwhile, are riding a 13-3 streak into the playoffs and enjoy home-field advantage. I like them to win any game Sabathia doesn’t pitch.
