It's a do-or-die fight for "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy".
July 7, in Sacramento California, Tito Ortiz (15-5-0) will face Rashad Evans (10-0-0) in the main event of UFC 73.
Ortiz, in his typical style, got the mixed martial arts community buzzing by making off-comments about Evans on mma.tv. Writing a post on the popular online discussion forum, Ortiz called Evans a "nappy headed ho" and "the UFC's first woman fighter."
In an interview with insidefighting.com, Ortiz made light of the comments. "I was just joking," he said. "The last time I looked I was a Mexican American so for me to be racist would be ridiculous. I have friends of all races. I feel the seriousness of the comment was taken when Don Imus said it. Everyone else that said it afterwards was just like 'ha, ha, ha'."
While many fans were offended by Ortiz' comments, Evans brushed them off. "That boy's a fool," he said on Albuquerque radio station, KTEG. "That's what he said for real? He's playing head games with the wrong person. He doesn't want to stand up and bang. He doesn't want to fight anyone real. He just wants to put on the production and pretend he's a fighter. But you can't do that all the time because real fighters come calling. And I'm a real fighter."
A video clip of Ortiz pushing Evans at a UFC event is up on youtube.com.
