The Indiana Pacers have realistic goals for the upcoming NBA season. They want to be competitive and give themselves a shot at either the seventh or eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Considering they are listed at +4000 to win the East, that might be a bit of a dream. Indiana is not talented enough to make the postseason just yet, and are still a player or two away from catching up in the conference.

Tonight the Pacers continue their exhibition season in Dallas against the Mavericks. The Mavs are 4-3 in the preseason and are coming off a disappointing loss to the Bulls where they blew a 23-point lead. Dirk Nowitzki scored 26 points, Gerald Green had 19, and Josh Howard added 18 for Dallas. The Mavericks, listed at +1200 to win the West, will be in tough this season to climb the ladder in a stacked conference.
