Just what the Celtics need – another weapon.

The NBA’s best team inserted rookie Glen Davis into the starting lineup Wednesday night and watched Big Baby solidify the middle with 16 points and nine rebounds in a 90-78 victory over the Sacramento Kings in Boston.

Davis, who helped lead LSU to the March Madness finals two years ago, made all 10 of his free throws as the Celtics improved to 18-2 overall and 11-0 at home. However, they failed to cover the point spread, which favored them by 15.5.

Paul Pierce led all scorers with 26 points while Ray Allen added 15.

Davis started because Kendrick Perkins’ bed fell on his foot (no word on Perkins’ sobriety at the time of the accident).

In other early NBA action on Wednesday:

Seattle 117, New York 110: Even the lowly SuperSonics can come into Madison Square Garden and win. Rookie Kevin Durant scored a game-high 30 points and Seattle triumphed as a five-point underdog.

Indiana 117, Chicago 102: Kareem Rush’s 22 points powered the Pacers at home, where they were favored by two.

Charlotte 104, Los Angeles Clippers 101: The Bobcats used an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to eke out the win. Raymond Felton’s 26 led the way, but the Clippers did beat the spread, which favored host Charlotte by 6.5.

Toronto 92, Dallas 76: The Raptors won their third straight as Chris Bosh scored 17 points. Toronto was a five-point home underdog.

Philadelphia 98, Minnesota 94: Samuel Dalembert had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the 76ers, who won at home but failed to cover the point spread. The T-wolves entered as nine-point underdogs.

Milwaukee 100, Orlando 86: Michael Redd nearly had a triple-double as he put up 27 points, 10 boards and nine assists to lead the Bucks to an upset. They were 5.5-point home underdogs.

Houston 80, Detroit 77: Tracy McGrady had 29 points and the Rockets won despite missing 14 of 15 free throws. They just covered the point spread, which favored them by 2.5 at home.
