It was the Edgar Sosa show. And the Marquette Golden Eagles had front-row tickets.
Sosa, Louisville's sophomore guard from New York, poured in a game-high 18 points to pace the Cardinals (17-6) to a Big East victory over Marquette, 71-57. The win snapped Marquette's 14-game home winning streak and made the logjam near the top of the conference even more cluttered.
Sosa's exploits weren't the only thing Marquette struggled with on Monday night. The aggressive Cardinals defense limited the Golden Eagles to just 30.4 percent shooting from the field. Only two Marquette players - Jerel McNeal (11) and Wesley Matthews (15) scored in double-digits in a game that featured a lot of scrappy perimeter play and contested shots on both ends of the court.
The Big East is now turning into something of a landmine as eight teams already have 16 wins on their resumes. That includes conference-leading Georgetown, the sixth-ranked team in the AP Polls. Other ranked Big East teams include Notre Dame (21), Connecticut (16) and Pitt (25). Louisville will likely get some mention to be included in next Monday's poll, as will the likes of West Virginia and Syracuse.
Louisville came into this contest as a three-point road underdog, +130 on the moneyline. The low-scoring, defensive affair went under the posted total of 136 points.
