It was nearly a Cinderella story before the 2008 NCAA tournament even began. But the 17-point favorite Davidson Wildcats ended the Elon Phoenix's dreams for a spot in the Big Dance with a convincing 65-49 win in the Southern Conference Championship.

Stephen Curry led the Wildcats with 23 points but went just 5-for-14 from behind the arc, 8-for-18 overall.

Other mid-major conference tournament results:

George Mason beat William & Mary 68-59, covering the nine-point spread, to win the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament. The Patriots will once again try to find the March Madness magic. Two years ago, they made it all the way to the Final Four.

Siena hammered Rider 74-53, easily beating the four-point spread, to win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Saints are off to the Big Dance for the fourth time in school history, the last time coming in 2002.

The San Diego Toreros upset the 7.5-point favorite Gonzaga Bulldogs 69-62 in the West Coast Conference (WCC) final. The Bulldogs had won the season-ending tourney the last four years and will no doubt be off to the NCAA tournament as an at-large team. In other words, that's one less spot for the bubble teams.

So there you have it: automatic NCAA tournament bids belong to Davidson, George Mason, Siena and San Diego.

Bet on college basketball!
