The season opener couldn’t have gone much worse for the Oklahoma Sooners.
With Sam Bradford sidelined with a shoulder injury, the 13th-ranked Sooners will try to bounce back from a loss as they play their home opener against Idaho State on Saturday night.
Bradford sprained his right shoulder late in the first half of a 14-13 loss to BYU last Saturday. He is not expected to need surgery and could return in two to four weeks.
The absences of Bradford and Jermaine Gresham leave the Sooners scrambling to do some major damage control after their first season-opening loss since 2005.
To rebound, Oklahoma will rely heavily on Landry Jones, the freshman who made his debut as Bradford’s replacement.
The Sooners, who haven’t lost back-to-back regular-season games since 1999, probably don’t expect to get much of a challenge from the Bengals of the Football Championship Subdivision. This is the first meeting between these teams.
