The remaining players from last season will still have the sour taste in their mouths of losing the title game, and now the whole team seems to feel slighted by a No. 2 seeding.

This Memphis team isn’t as talented as the squad that reached the championship game last year, but it’s probably every bit as good as the Tigers’ 2005-06 and 2006-07 teams.

In the opening round on Thursday, the Tigers will start their quest against the Cal State Northridge Matadors.
Despite being without two of their best guards, the Matadors still won the Big West regular-season and tourney titles. Coach Bobby Braswell’s team plays hard, especially on the defensive end, but unless Memphis goes ice-cold, it should be one-and-done for the Matadors.
