Does anyone want a football game in Europe?
You can probably get an idea of how most football fans feel by Mike Ditka's comments in his weekly Bodog Nation column, "I think it's ridiculous. I mean, it's absolutely a stupid idea by the National Football League, and whoever had the idea, it's stupid."
"Football is an American sport."
Regardless of what Da Coach thinks, this game is happening. And although Londoners will be lucky enough to see one of the NFL's hottest teams for their first game ever, they'll also see one of the worst – the Miami Dolphins.
"We can't win in America," Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor told reporters. "Maybe we can win overseas."
With comments like that, you can see how bad things have gotten for Miami.
The Dolphins have started their 2007 season 0-7, the worst start in the franchise's 42-year history and has given up a league-high 231 points. No other team has allowed more than 200. They're also a paltry 1-4-2 against the spread, it's even been tough for them to keep games close.
"We're just not very good right now, especially on [the defensive side]," Miami middle linebacker Zach Thomas said. "I mean, we can't even play right now with the mediocre teams in the league, let alone with a great team like [the Patriots]. They were awesome and we were awful."
The Pats destroyed the Dolphins and covered the spread despite being 17-point favorites on the road. This was the second largest spread given to a road team.
They are 10-point underdogs against the Giants this weekend, and with their best running back – Ronnie Brown – out for the rest of the season, it could be another tough cover.
"You don't replace a Ronnie Brown," Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said. "But you say, 'These are the guys we have. How do we maximize the guys we have? Who are our best 11?'"
Miami may not have 11 "players".
