The NFL Draft has already begun and we're gonna keep you updated with all the results in the first round:
1. Oakland Raiders Select: JaMarcus Russell, LSU Quarterback
Although there was speculation about this pick all morning, the Raiders went with the player everyone thought they should take. JaMarcus Russell should thrive in the Raiders' long-ball style and his size and mobility gives him the ability to buy time behind a brutal offensive line.
2. Detroit Lions Select: Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech Wide Receiver
The Lions have drafted another receiver. But will he stay or is he a trade pick? Time will tell today as the Lions have so many other needs other than WR and this is their fourth pass catcher in five years.
3. Cleveland Browns Select: Joe Thomas, Wisconsin Tackle
Wow. First surprise of the draft. You can definately see why the Browns would try to shore up their offensive line as a solid tackle gives more time in the pocket to current starting QB Charlie Frye and helps their running game. But Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn had a chance to be the face of their franchise. Thomas was a +130 underdog to go No. 3 to the Browns.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select: Gaines Adams, Clemson Defensive End
This could be trade bait for the Lions, but if not, the Bucs shore up their D-line with Gaines Adams out of Clemson. His speed off the line could bring back the defensive minded Bucs circa 2003. Adams was a big favorite to be selected here, coming in at -300.
5. Arizona Cardinals Select: OT Levi Brown, Penn State Offensive Tackle
This pick is a tad on the high side, but the Browns shocked the first round by going OT, therefore the Cards grab the second best one here. The Cardinals O-line was one of the worst last year and this pick should pay immediate dividends to the pass and run game. Those that bet "Any Other Player" got a +200 payout.
6. Washington Redskins Select: LaRon Landry, LSU Safety
With the S Adam Archuleta experiment not panning out the Redskins opt to draft one of the best safety prospects since the Ravens' Ed Reed. Landry should be an immediate impact starter in the Skins' secondary. Landry was a -130 favorite.
7. Minnesota Vikings Select: Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma Running Back
The Vikings have bought into the two-back system by drafting the best running back on the board. Peterson should make for an elite running attack with Chester Taylor and will make up for any shortcomings at QB. Peterson was a +225 underdog.
8. Atlanta Falcons Select: Jamaal Anderson, Arkansas Defensive End
Surprisingly Amobi Okoye wasn't the pick with him falling this far, but Jamaal Anderson is still a solid pass rusher for them here. Anderson was a +500 underdog.
9. Miami Dolphins Select: Ted Ginn Jr., Ohio State Wide Receiver
The gasps could be heard all across New York City when this pick came in. It was a lock that Brady Quinn would go here, but the Dolphins have shocked the NFL by passing on him for the speedy star from Ohio State. He should be a solid vertical threat for the Dolphins, but who's gonna throw to him?
10. Houston Texans Select: Amobi Okoye, Louisville Defensive Tackle
Solid pick for the Texans here. Okoye fell this far not because of his lack of star potential but because of needs and all the crazy moves from picks No. 3 on. The Texans have a solid future at D-line with Mario Williams and Okoye.
11. San Francisco 49ers Select: Patrick Willis, Ole Miss Linebacker
The 49ers should continue their rise in the NFC West by picking the best middle linebacker – if not the best linebacker – in the draft. This kid has Ray Lewis-like ability which could make the Niners a contender for years to come.
12. Buffalo Bills Select: Marshawn Lynch, California Running Back
The Bills were desperate for a RB with the loss of Willis McGahee. Lynch has the physical tools to bowl defenders over 25 times per game.
13. St. Louis Rams Select: Adam Carriker, Nebraska Defensive Tackle
The Rams needed to go defense and they do by drafting what some have called the second best DE in the draft.
14. New York Jets Select (Pick from Carolina Panthers): Darrelle Revis, Pittsburgh Cornerback
The Jets needed a star corner and they got one by trading up and drafting the first or second-best (depends on who you ask) corner in the draft. The Jets were -155 favorites to go defense.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers Select: Lawrence Timmons, Florida State Linebacker
As the second-best linebacker in the draft Timmons fills a big hole left by LB Joey Porter. Timmons has the burst and pursue skills to be an instant contributer to the Steelers' 3-4 defense.
16. Green Bay Select: Justin Harrell, Tennessee Defensive Tackle
The Packers wanted Marshawn Lynch, but with him gone to Buffalo the Pack pick up a potentially vicious D-lineman in Harrell.
17. Denver Broncos Select: (Pick from Jacksonville) Jarvis Moss, Florida Defensive End
The Broncos trade up for what some have called the next Jevon Kearse. Denver is now solid on both sides of the ball for a playoff run.
18. Cincinnati Bengals Select: Leon Hall, Michigan Cornerback
The Bengals are so good on offense they're planning endzone dances already, so defense makes the most sense here. Hall will be a huge help to their secondary.
19. Tennessee Titans Select: Michael Griffin, Texas Safety
The Titans were screaming for a WR here. But they shocked the Music Hall by going for safety Michael Griffin. The Titans are not particulary weak at safety, so this pick is perplexing. Those who wagered the Titans would draft "Any Other Position" made +280 of the pick.
20. New York Giants Select: Aaron Ross, Texas Cornerback
The University of Texas goes back-to-back. The G-Men need instant help on defense and Ross has the size, instincts and playmaking ability to make an impact right away.
21. Jacksonville Jaguars Select (Pick from Denver): Reggie Nelson, Florida Safety
The Jags wanted Nelson at No. 17, kudos to them for trading down and getting the guy they wanted anyway. Nelson has the speed to play corner and the big-hit ability to play safety in the NFL.
22. Cleveland Browns Select (Pick from Dallas): Brady Quinn, Notre Dame Quarterback
Wow. Amazing. He shockingly didn't go No. 3 to Cleveland, then dropped all the way to No. 22 where the Browns had to give up their 2nd round pick and their 1st in 2008 to the Cowboys to grab him. The Browns now have a solid young nucleus of stars in TE Kellen Clemens, WR Braylon Edwards, and OT Joe Thomas.
23. Kansas City Chiefs Select: Dwayne Bowe, LSU Wide Receiver
The Chiefs have finally addressed their need at WR and picked up a physical playmaker in Dwayne Bowe. Bowe could be a solid possesion receiver in the Anquan Boldin mold.
24. New England Patriots Select: Brandon Meriweather, Miami Safety
The Pats need a replacement for aging safety Rodney Harrison. Meriweather, the best safety available, is a great choice here.
25. Carolina Panthers (Pick from NYJ) Select: Jon Beason, Miami Linebacker
The Panthers had very lackluster play from their linebackers last year, so they filled a glaring need by grabbing Beason here.
26. Dallas Cowboys (Pick from Philadelphia) Select: Anthony Spencer, Purdue Defensive End
Dallas goes defense once again, but not truly in the area they needed. They've been lacking at the CB and safety positions but have likely concluded that if their pass rush is strong enough, it doesn't matter if their secondary can cover.
27. New Orleans Saints Select: Robert Meachem, Tennessee Wide Receiver
The surprises keep on coming as the Saints ignore their needs on defense and draft a wide receiver. With Joe Horn gone we can see why they would think they would need another WR, but this high? Didn't they score enough in 2006?
28. San Francisco 49ers (Pick from New England) Select: Joe Staley, Central Michigan Offensive Tackle
The Niners have moved up to take an athletic tackle from Central Michigan. This pick should give their QB Alex Smith more time in the pocket.
29. Baltimore Ravens Select : Ben Grubbs, Auburn Guard
With RB Willis McGahee on the squad the Ravens grabbed a player that can open up holes for him. Not the sexiest pick but a solid one.
30. San Diego Chargers Select: Craig Davis, LSU Wide Receiver
No Dwayne Jarrett? Looks like Jarrett is going to fall out of the first round as the Chargers opt for the other receiver out of LSU.
31. Chicago Bears Select: Greg Olsen, Miami Tight End
Bears grab the best tight end in the draft in Olsen. This should give QB Rex Grossman a bail out option on offense, and keep from blindly throwing it downfield.
32. Indianapolis Colts Select: Anthony Gonzalez Wide Receiver
What is happening here? The Colts are missing two corners, a safety, and a linebacker, and they opt for another receiver? Way to put spinning rims on a Bentley.
