In what might be the biggest move of the day, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Patriot and Pro Bowl standout CB Asante Samuel on the first day of NFL Free Agency.
Samuel signed a six-year deal with Philly, joining the likes of established veterans Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown in the Eagles' secondary. The move is a massive upgrade given Samuel's pedigree - he has 16 interceptions over the last two seasons and shares the NFL career record for interception return TDs, with three.
Samuel was looking for big money last season but was franchise tagged by New England, a controversial move that resulted in Samuel holding out. It was widely speculated that decision would keep him from ever playing for the Patriots again after the 2007 season, and those predictions proved to be right.
