There’s trouble in the Swamp. The 6-2-2 New Jersey Devils will be minus goaltender Martin Brodeur when they welcome the 7-2-2 Buffalo Sabres to the Prudential Center. Brodeur suffered a bruised elbow during Saturday’s 6-1 win over Atlanta (+182); his status beyond Monday is uncertain.
Kevin Weekes is the No. 2 goalie in New Jersey. His best years appear to be behind him; Weekes has posted a save percentage below .900 in each of the past three seasons since the lockout. Brodeur owns a .916 save percentage this year with a pair of shutouts.
The Sabres have lost two of their last three games at home, dropping two units against the moneyline. Tim Connolly (seven goals in 48 games last year) returned to action Saturday; however, Buffalo is still missing Jochen Hecht (finger) and Craig Rivet (knee). The Sabres are 11-1 in their last 12 trips to New Jersey.
