NHL Scores: Flyers Finally Win One

The Broad Street Bullies had been playing like Haight Street Hippies – lazily and with no ambition. Tonight, though, the Philadelphia Flyers finally won a game after failing to register a W in their last ten. They beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in a shootout with former Sabre Daniel Briere notching the winner in the – ahem – skills competition.
The Buffalo faithful mercilessly booed the same player they cheered last year as he came in on goalie Ryan Miller, but a neat deke was all it took to send the visitors victorious and the fans home to contemplate their lives in Buffalo.
Even worse for the paying patrons, the Sabres had jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period before the Flyers clawed back, finally tying it up in the third on a R.J. Umberger marker.
