If you are a backer of the Los Angeles Dodgers (83-75, -4.18 units) you can almost taste the division crown today. The Dodgers downed the San Diego Padres (61-97, -36.91 units) 12-4 Wednesday night to cut their magic number to clinch the National League West to one. L.A. has a four-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks (79-79, -17.24 units) and clinched no worse than a tie for the West title. Arizona lost its second consecutive game to St. Louis, 4-2.

The Dodgers could wrap it up without even playing today, if the D-Backs lose this afternoon. Otherwise L.A. will have a chance of their own tonight against Jake Peavy, who is 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA against the Dodgers in 2008.

The Rockies (73-85, -18.99 units) look to complete a three-game road sweep of the Giants (70-88, -4.22 units), who hand the ball to Barry Zito tonight. Zito will be looking to win his third straight decision, while trying to cool off a Rockies team that put up 18 hits in a 15-6 win on Wednesday.
