Although oddsmakers expected a close matchup, you can officially chalk up another upset for the Big East tourney as Marquette defeated Notre Dame 89-79.
The odds closed with Marquette as the one-point favorite over Notre Dame and it looks like the books were right. The Fighting Irish led by six after the first half but Marquette came out blazing in the second, dropping 57 points.
Guard Jered McNeal led the Golden Eagles with 28 points and six rebounds, while the Marquette defense was able to keep Notre Dame's leading scorer Luke Harangody to just 13. Well off his 21-point average.
