The disaster that is the 2007-08 Miami Heat season just keeps getting better.
The latest news out of Loserville, Fla., is that head coach Pat Riley is now seriously considering ditching games so he can get a head start on scouting college players.
Ignoring the fact that Miami employs a staff of highly paid scouts to do exactly that, Riley went on to say that it's somewhat imperative he take a look at the upcoming crop of draftees.
"I'll be flying in and out," Riley told the Associated Press. "But I think right now, I've got to do that. I need to do that."
This is probably just a thinly-veiled excuse to get away from the outright disaster Riley has put together. Miami has dropped 29 of its last 32 games and has the worst record in the association at 11-47. They're the odds-on favorite to get the No. 1 pick overall, which makes Riley's decision even more comical. You have the first pick in the draft – howabout you just pick the best player and get on with it.
Here's a hint: maybe take Michael Beasley. He's the best player in college. Will probably still be on the board at No. 1. You have a really solid chance of landing him.
Will the absence of Riley help or hurt the Heat? Try your luck at figuring it out in the Bodog Sportsbook. It's got all your NBA odds.
