No, Tiger Woods is not playing at this weekend’s World Golf Championships-CA Championship at Doral’s Blue Monster outside Miami, but it’s easily the best stroke-play field of the season, with nine of the top 10 and 48 of the top 50 players in the world competing. Bet on this tournament with Bodog’s golf odds.

Tiger has dominated this event, but he couldn’t beat out Phil Mickelson last year, and Lefty is back to defend his championship as the 9/1 favorite at Bodog. Despite being weakened and dehydrated by a stomach virus that sent him to the hospital on the eve of the final round in 2009, Mickelson closed with a 3-under 69 to edge Nick Watney by a shot. Mickelson had been winless in 26 WGC events prior to that victory. He has just one Top 10 finish in four PGA starts so far this year.

The fan favorite this week probably will be Colombian Camilo Villegas (16/1 on Bodog to win), who dominated last week up the coast of Florida with a five-shot win and record 13-under total at the Honda Classic. Villegas has yet to finish outside the Top 10 in three starts this season and finished tied for fifth at this event in 2009.

World No. 2 Steve Stricker is the second favorite on Bodog (14/1) and he won the last stroke-play tournament he was in. In fact, his scoring average is 67.67 in stroke play events in 2010 with three Top-10 finishes in three tries. In his last two CA Championship appearances, he finished tied for 13th and tied for sixth.

Jim Furyk (22/1) loves Doral, having won this tournament in 2000 and finishing third last year and second in both 2003 and 2008. However, he has yet to crack the Top 10 in a tournament so far this season. Geoff Ogilvy (22/1) won this tournament in 2008 and won the season-opening event on Tour in 2010, but he hasn’t been in contention in two events since. Ogilvy has won three WGC events in his career, which is second only to Tiger.
