Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has told a Boston radio station that he will undergo surgery on Monday for his injured right shoulder. It will end his season and possibly his career.

"There's a pretty decent chance that I've thrown my last pitch, forever," Schilling said. "I'm going in to make it not hurt anymore, which is pretty much all I care about."

Schilling had just signed an $8 million deal with Red Sox last November, but it looks like Boston will never get their money's worth. He might not return in 2009.

"I don't want it to end this way, but if this is the way it has to end, I'm OK with that," Schilling told the radio station.
