Semi-Pro Reviews – They're Not Good, Folks

Will Ferrell is a funny guy. Very funny, in fact. Even so, even the best mail it in on occasion. And that appears to be the case with his latest movie, Semi-Pro, which is about a semipro basketball team, the Flint Michigan Tropics, in 1976 that's gotta start winning and drawing bigger crowds if it wants to join the NBA. Ferrell plays the role of Jackie Moon, the team's owner who used the profits from his chart-topping song "Love Me Sexy" to buy the team.
While some enjoyed the movie, most Semi-Pro reviews have been poor.
"Semi-Pro goes up for the dunk and misses the hoop, the backboard and the point. Instead, it manages to both strike out and get sacked." – New York Post
"This may be one of the most sluggish sports comedies ever made — even the supposedly rousing final sequence feels belabored and chubby." – Salon.com
"For die-hard Ferrell fans, this could be the ultimate test. He has been playing variations of "Elf" for five years, and his antics have grown as stale as Jackie's socks." – New York Daily News
"As Ferrell’s films go, Semi-Pro is, honestly, pretty damn boring." - Film Threat
"Semi-Pro is the perfect name for this movie, because it feels like a half-baked comedy made by semi-professionals." – Seattle P.I.
