It took a while, but Shawn Johnson is finally golden.
Johnson, the 16-year-old American gymnast who had failed to secure gold in Beijing, made good on her final attempt at a gold medal by winning the balance beam competition. Her 16.225 was more than enough to place ahead of U.S. teammate Nastia Liukin (16.025) and China's Cheng Fei (15.95).
She'd thrice been denied a gold, having captured three silver medals in the gymnastics competition thus far. But on the beam - widely considered to be one of her strengths - she made good despite pushes from all-around gold medalist Liukin and the always strong Chinese contingent.
While the gymnastics competition is coming to a close, there's still lots of quality track and field options available for the wagering public!
