Spain's Olympic basketball team has come under fire for the above picture, where the team is purposely pulling back the skin around their eyes to make them appear slanted. Apparently, that kind of humor plays in Spain, but didn't resonate as well in, you know, CHINA.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Los Angeles Lakers C Pau Gasol said:

"It was something like supposed to be funny or something but never offensive in any way. I'm sorry if anybody thought or took it the wrong way and thought that it was offensive."

Toronto Raptors PG Jose Calderon thought the international media might be making too much of the picture.

""We felt it was something appropriate, and that it would be interpreted as an affectionate gesture. Without a doubt, some … press didn't see it that way."
