Everybody knows that things can get testy at a National Football League training camp. It's hot, the practices are brutal and sometimes, you can get into it with a teammate.

Such was the case at Carolina Panthers camp in Spartanburg, South Carolina today. All-Pro WR Steve Smith decided it was time to throw down with cornerback Ken Lucas - and it was Lucas who ended up carted off the field with an ice pack above his left eye.

From ESPN.com:

"The melee came while most starters were on the sidelines during a special teams drill at training camp. It was unclear what provoked the fight. Several players and coach John Fox rushed to both players. Fox tried to separate the two, but it took linebacker Jon Beason to pull Smith off Lucas."

Smith was subsequently kicked out of practice. Fox said the matter will be handled internally.

How will this brou-ha-ha affect the Panthers for the upcoming season? Currently, Carolina is a 40/1 longshot to win the 2009 Super Bowl - get all your NFL football futures betting in the Bodog Sportsbook today!
