The Tampa Bay Rays almost blew a 3-1 series lead but hung on to take down the reigning champion Boston Red Sox in a series-deciding seventh game.

With Jed Lowrie, Jason Varitek and Mark Kostay all coming up short in the top of the ninth, the Rays will move on to take on the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series.

After jumping out to the lead with a Dustin Pedroia solo shot in the first inning, the Red Sox surrendered their lead on an Evan Longoria shot in the bottom of the fourth.

Not long after that, in the bottom of the fifth Willie Aybar gave the Rays all they would need to hold on for the American League Championship Series win.
