UFC legend David "Tank" Abbott (9-13-0) thinks he's the perfect person to welcome internet street fighter Kimbo Slice (1-0-0) to the big leagues of mixed martial arts.
"Kimbo has been playing around in the boatyard," he says. "Now it's time for him to step up to the big leagues, and we'll see how true he really is."
During an interview in a youtube.com video, Abbott talks about the upcoming match. "I'm very excited," he says. "I've seen Kimbo on the small-screen on the internet. Now, I can't wait to see him up close and personal so I can fist between his eyes."
And what does "Tank" think of his opponent? Well, he saw Kimbo guillotine choke former boxing champion Ray Mercer, and then he can't remember much after that. "I went to the Mercer fight, which really wasn't a fight," he explains, "and the things I've seen since then, I'm usually having a cocktail while I'm watching them so I can't really remember them."
Although he has lost his last three fights, Abbott promises he'll be coming into the fight with Kimbo in better shape. "The last fight I had I was 296 [pounds]. Now I'm floating about 258. I'll be ready for this fight."
Any predictions from "Tank"?
"If Kimbo wants to stand in front of me, he's going to be falling down," Abbott says, "and if he wants to wrestle, he missed the boat on that a long time ago."
