With World Cup qualifying just around the corner, the United States' mens soccer team didn't want to come out flat in their friendlies.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened.

Goals from Chelsea and England captain John Terry and Liverpool star Steven Gerrard were more than enough as England defeated the USA 2-0 in international soccer action.

The lineups were as follows:

USA

GK: Tim Howard

D: Steve Cherundolo, Oguchi Onyewu, Carlos Bocanegra, Heath Pearce

M: Josh Wolff, Michael Bradley, Rico Clark, DaMarcus Beasley

F: Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson

For England

GK: David James

D: Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole

M: David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Owen Hargreaves

F: Jermaine Defoe, Wayne Rooney

England led 1-0 at halftime on Terry's goal – the centerback rose above the US defense to nod home David Beckham's cross – and scored the insurance marker in the 58th minute. Substitute Frank Lampard hooked up with Gerrard and the Liverpool man slotted it home.
