It took an extra 19 holes, but Tiger Woods beat Rocco Mediate in to capture his third U.S. Open title.

Woods and Mediate were neck and neck after the 18-hole playoff Monday and were forced to play in sudden death.

Woods, still recovering from knee surgery, was able to par the hole and put the pressure on Mediate.

Mediate got in the sand early and wasn't able to recover, missing a 20-foot put for par.

"He's sooooo hard to beat," Mediate said of Woods after what many call one of the greatest Open's ever.

With the win Woods has 14 major championships and seems likely to break Jack Nicklaus' all-time record.
