New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of his team's season debut Sunday and it appears to be serious.

After leading the Pats to a 16-0 regular season record last year, much was expected of Brady and his club as they looked to revenge a shocking Superbowl loss to the New York Giants. With Brady now potentially sidelined long-term that may be easier said than done.

Heading into the match Brady had started 127 consecutive games.

Though Brady missed the remainder of the game, back up quarterback Matt Cassel stepped in to lead the team to a 17-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

How the injury was sustained has been a topic of controversy lately as many believe Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard intentionally took out the quarterback's legs.

With Brady out for the rest of the season, as some think, it drastically changes the landscape of the AFC, but fans in New England will be hoping to hear better news than that when the MRI is completed on Monday.
