The 2008 regular season once again proved that baseball is still as popular as ever. Fans helped set the second-highest attendance mark in history, drawing 78,624,324, falling just below last year’s record of 79,502,524 in paid attendance. So what ballparks had the best regular season numbers?
1. Yankee Stadium (Yankees) 4,298,655
2. Shea Stadium (Mets) 4,042,047
3. Dodger Stadium (Dodgers) 3,730,553
4. Busch Stadium (Cardinals) 3,430,660
5. Citizens Bank Park (Phillies) 3,422,583
Both New York teams certainly cashed in on the interest in seeing the last games in both Yankee and Shea Stadiums.
The Yankees, Mets, and Phillies were part of a group of seven teams that set all-time franchise records for home attendance. Clearly the weak economy, high gas prices, and wild weather did not impact attendance as much as expected. Can't wait until next season.
