The Pittsburgh Panthers (25-2 SU, 13-7-1 ATS) took 69 of the 72 Associated Press votes on Monday to regain the No. 1 spot. The team Pittsburgh beat to get there, the Connecticut Huskies (25-2 SU, 10-11 ATS), slipped to No. 2.
Two other clubs could have moved into the penthouse, but both the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners (25-2 SU, 12-9-1 ATS) and the No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels (24-3 SU, 10-15 ATS) tasted defeat. That allowed Pitt to surge from fourth to first in the rankings.
It’s easy to forget the Memphis Tigers (24-3 SU, 17-9 ATS) are a mid-major team, but the Conference USA powerhouses are back in national title contention at No. 5 in the polls. No. 17 Gonzaga, No. 19 Xavier and No. 24 Butler are your other mid-majors in the Top 25.
