Dec.12 in Las Vegas, World Extreme Cagefighting was a night full of submissions, with over half of the bouts ending by either choke or armlock.

In the title match, WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber (20-1-0) retained his belt by defeating jiu-jitsu black belt Jeff Curran (28-9-1) by guillotine choke. Although Curran was able to take Faber's back in the first round, the champion rode it out and sunk in the choke in the second round, after opening a deep cut on the bridge of Curran's nose.

Former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver (22-8-1) wasted no time in his featherweight debut, destroying opponent Cub Swanson (11-2-0) in just 35-seconds with a torturous anaconda choke.

WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho (16-0-0) also retained his belt on Wednesday night, catching Team Quest fighter Chael Sonnen (19-9-1) in an armbar late in the second round. The match was not without controversy, though, as Sonnen slammed Filho to the mat at the start of the fight and turned to the referee, saying "He's out!". The match was allowed to continue, though, and Filho absorbed countless punches off his back. In the second round, Filho climbed his legs up around Sonnen's arm, pulled it straight and the referee stopped the fight. Although Sonnen protested the stoppage, Filho was declared the winner by armbar.
