The 49ers find themselves around the top third of the league in both offense and defense as they head into Week 4. Not many would have predicted that before the season, but then again it is early and the Niners did pile up the points in a 31-13 win over the horrid Detroit Lions.
Add that to their 33-point outburst against the Seahawks, and it marks the first time the 49ers have scored 30-plus points in back-to-back games since the 2003 season.
Could the scoring parade continue this week against the favored New Orleans Saints? Considering the Saints rank 27th in the league in points allowed at just over 27 per game, it could.
The Saints are having problems getting crucial yards when the game is on the line. Last week in a 34-32 loss to the Broncos, New Orleans only converted 2-of-7 times when they needed one yard for a first down or a touchdown.
If Sean Payton's team can't find a way to convert when it matters they could get a surprise from San Fran and be staring at a 1-3 start to the season.
