Quarterback Patrick White rushed for 186 yards and scored three touchdowns as third-ranked West Virginia routed No. 20 Connecticut 66-21 to win the Big East Conference championship and stay in the running for college football's national title.
White completed 9-of-13 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown and ran for two while Noel Devine ran for 118 yards and a touchdown as the Mountaineers won their sixth straight game.
With top-ranked Louisiana State losing yesterday to Arkansas, West Virginia could move up into one of the top two spots in the Bowl Championship Series rankings this week heading into its regular-season finale against Pittsburgh.
The two teams atop the final BCS poll on Dec. 2 will meet in the national title game.
