If you believe it potential trap games, Saturday’s Tennessee at Alabama game could be one when placing your NCAA football bets – the Tide, who are the new No. 1 in the AP poll, are 15.5 betting favorites on Bodog’s college football odds.

Tennessee is coming off a bye week, thus having nearly two full weeks to prepare for this one. And the Vols played their best game in the short Lane Kiffin era before the bye, beating Georgia 45-19. UT QB Jonathan Crompton is much-maligned in Knoxville, but he threw for 310 yards and four TDs against the Dawgs. It appears Kiffin is loosening the leash on Crompton a bit, and the senior has not thrown more than one pick or had less than two TD passes in a game since the Florida loss.

Also, the Tide have played back-to-back physical games against ranked teams and might not feel too threatened by a Tennessee team that Alabama has beaten by a combined 70-26 the past two seasons. The fact that Bama moved up to No. 1 does not bode well for a straight-up Tennessee upset when pondering the college football odds on this one. UT is 2-7 against the No. 1 team all-time but hasn’t beaten once since 1985. Plus the ranked or higher-ranked team has a 45-9-2 record in the series.

The Vols do have a good defense, as Florida can attest, so look for them to focus on stopping red-hot Alabama RB Mark Ingram with Bama QB Greg McElroy struggling lately (no TD passes in past two games, two picks last week). Ingram might be the Heisman favorite after rushing for 246 yards last week against South Carolina. He also shares the team lead with 19 catches, and his 30 runs of 10-plus yards leads the nation.

Could Saturday's matchup in Lexington be a trap game for the Alabama Crimson Tide?

There are a few reasons that might be the case: 1) It may be hard for Alabama to take Kentucky seriously, considering the Tide are 34-2-1 all-time against UK; 2) Bama has a huge game next week with Ole Miss that it might be looking ahead to; 3) This is the Crimson Tide's first true road game of the year; and 4) Tide star linebacker Dont'a Hightower was lost for the season in last week's win against Arkansas – the sophomore had 16 tackles, four of them for a loss, on the nation's second-ranked defense.

Still, oddsmakers at Bodog are confident in Nick Saban's club, as Alabama is -16 on the site's college football odds. Saban, by the way, has never lost to Kentucky in his head coaching career. And if Saban needs to motivate his guys, all he has to do is look at last year's 17-14 home escape against Kentucky.

The best college football odds are at Bodog Sportsbook.

It seems unrealistic that Kentucky would stop an Alabama offense averaging more than 267 yards per game rushing and 244 passing; that unit is scoring 8 more points per game than it was last year at this time. QB Greg McElroy, who many thought was the question mark on this team, is third in the NCAA in passing efficiency. But this will be his first start in a true road game.

The Wildcats had no chance last week against Florida, as they allowed the Gators 31 first-quarter points. Coach Rich Brooks said he was embarrassed by that, so expect a much more focused team from the get-go this week. If UK can just hang close through one quarter, it might be in good shape considering the Wildcats have outscored the opposition 35-0 in the second quarter this year.

UK's pass defense has been very good, but the Tide may run at will, so consider that while doing your football betting at Bodog. Tailbacks Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson combine to average 172.8 yards per game, while the UK run defense is No. 105 in the country, allowing 185.7 per outing on the ground.
It doesn't seem fair that UK has to play No. 1 Florida and No. 3 Alabama back-to-back – it is the highest-ranked consecutive opponents the Wildcats have ever played.

If the 10.5-point favored Tide win, they were supposed to. On the other hand, if the Tide lose, they will go down in bowl infamy alongside Oklahoma, which suffered a 2007 Fiesta Bowl loss to Boise State.

Alabama will certainly be ready for Utah’s offense. The Utes are coached by Kyle Whittingham, who was with Urban Meyer when Meyer coached the Utes to prominence in 2004 with an undefeated season. Now Meyer is the coach at Florida, which beat Alabama in the SEC championship game. Alabama should be ready for what Utah is going to do offensively.

If Utah can win it will make a huge statement for non-BCS teams. Lose badly, and the BCS will have another case to flex its muscles over the non-BCS conferences.

Crimson Tide quarterback John Parker Wilson ran in the game-winning touchdown against the defense of the 16th-ranked club in the nation.

After jumping out to a 24-3 start after two quarters, the Crimson Tide seemed to let up as Ole Miss narrowed the gap over the course of the third and fourth.

Elsewhere on the college slate, No. 3-ranked Penn State steamrolled Michigan 46-17, No. 4-ranked Oklahoma took down nationally-ranked Kansas 45-31, USC destroyed Washington 69-0 and unranked Maryland took down No. 21-ranked Wake Forest 26-0.

The hottest college football team in the nation has to be the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS). They’re rocketing up the charts after rolling through Arkansas (-8) and Georgia (+6.5) on the road. Nick Saban has turned this team around much more quickly than expected. He took them to the Independence Bowl last year after leaving the Miami Dolphins and drawing the ire of the press. Now the Tide are pointed at the BCS title game.

That isn’t keeping people from betting on the Kentucky Wildcats as 16-point underdogs in Saturday’s matchup at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kentucky is playing very good football at 4-0 SU (2-1 ATS), including a 27-2 upset of Louisville (-3.5) to start the season. The Wildcats are doing it the boring way with defense and running. Alabama certainly has the talent to win, but covering a big spread in these conditions is difficult.
The SEC delivers another classic matchup this Saturday night when the No. 10 Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS) roll through Sanford Stadium to face the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs (4-0 SU, 2-0-1 ATS) on ESPN. This should be a close contest, although the odds will be well in Georgia’s favor.

The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last five versus the Tide, but that number is relatively meaningless, since it dates back to 1994. The relevant figure is the 26-23 overtime win Georgia posted last year as a 3-point road dog. Alabama is playing much better this year, leading the SEC in rushing at 236.8 yards per game.

Georgia will try to get a psychological edge in this matchup by wearing black for just the third time in team history. The other two times were last year against Auburn and Hawaii; the Bulldogs easily won and covered both games. I think they’ll win again, but only by a field goal. Get all your NCAA College Football Odds in the Bodog Sportsbook today!
