Eddie Murphy to Play Riddler in Dark Knight Sequel

Rumor has it, Eddie Murphy will bring his character acting to the Batman franchise. Let's hope he leaves his fat suit at home. Reportedly, Murphy has been signed by director Christopher Nolan to star as The Riddler, Batman's nemesis du jour once played by Jim Carrey. There had been speculation that the role could go to Johnny Depp.

An insider stated, "Eddie's a fantastic addition. Everyone's excited to see what he does as the Riddler."

Shia LaBeouf could be slated as the next Robin (do we have to have a Robin?), while Christian Bale and Michael Caine will reprise their roles as Bruce Wayne and Alfred.

No word on who will take on the role as Catwoman in the Dark Knight sequel – though Rachel Weisz, Angelina Jolie and Cher are contenders.

Johnny Depp to Play the Riddler in Next Batman Movie

According to U.K. magazine Female First, actor Johnny Depp has been approached to play the role of the Riddler in the next Batman movie.

"Johnny would be amazing as the Riddler," a source told the magazine. "The studio knew they needed someone who could match or even top the late actor Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker in the most recent film, The Dark Knight, and think Johnny has the potential to do so."

The Riddler was portrayed by Frank Gorshin in the 1960s TV show as well as Jim Carey in the 1995 movie, Batman Forever.

Female First also reports that studio bosses are considering Philip Seymour Hoffman for the role of the Penguin in the new movie.

Angelina Jolie to Play Catwoman in Movie

According to U.K. magazine Female First, actress Angelina Jolie has been tapped to play the part of Catwoman in an upcoming movie.

The 33-year-old actress, who recently gave birth to twins, is said to be in negotiations with studio bosses to play the role. "Angelina would own the part," said actress Julie Newmar, who played the role of Catwoman in the Batman TV series from 1966-68. "My industry friends tell me she has already made inquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman's one true love.

"She is tremendously popular with women because she's both a heroine and a villainess."

Other actresses who have previously donned the black, leather cat suit include Michelle Pfieffer in 1992 for the movie Batman Returns and Halle Berry in 2004's Catwoman.
