Jan "The Giant" Nortje beats Bob "The Beast" Sapp at Bodog Fight Presents Strikeforce at the Dome.

Since Bob Sapp and Maurice Smith are two of the most popular fighters to come out of Washington, it's no wonder that they were chosen to headline Bodog Fight presents Strikeforce at the Dome on Feb. 23 in Tacoma.

It's also no surprise that both were huge favorites heading into their fights. Sapp's opponent, Jan "The Giant" Nortje, was 1-5 in MMA, while world kickboxing champion Rick "The Jet" Roufus, who faced Smith, had never fought in MMA before. With Sapp holding a 9-3-1 record and Smith being a former UFC champion, Tacoma fans anticipated wins for both of their home-state boys.

In town with the HDNet crew, MMA veteran Guy Metzger said he was looking forward to an exciting night of action.

"It's going to be interesting to see Bob Sapp fighting in mixed martial arts in America for the first time," he said. "I'm also interested to see Maurice Smith fight Rick Roufus, two world class kickboxers that have made the transition to MMA. It'll be a brutal match if it’s a kickboxing match with 4-ounce gloves. I expect to see a good night of fights."

As former training partners, both Sapp and Nortje knew exactly what to expect heading into the main event. As the taller fighter at 6 feet 11 inches, Nortje's strategy was to keep the fight standing, while Sapp, the heavier fighter at 356 pounds, made no secret about his intentions to drive his South African opponent into the fence and drag him to the mat.

Bob "The Beast" Sapp is a scary dude, especially when he laughs.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, Bodog Fight presents Strikeforce at the Dome hits the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Wash.

Bodog Fight cameras caught up with the fighters competing on the show, including 360-pound Bob "The Beast" Sapp and 6-foot, 11-inch Jan "The Giant" Nortje, who will clash in a heavyweight battle.

Named after a 17th century poem about the struggle between good and evil, the fourth season of the Bodog Fight TV show promises some classic battles of its own according to series creator, billionaire entertainment mogul Calvin Ayre.

"We brought some of the world's best MMA athletes to beautiful Tambor beach in Costa Rica to do what they do best," he says. "The result is a winning combination of big brawls and small bikinis that promises to be a knockout with fight fans."

Competitors include former WWE superstar Daniel Puder, Brazilian MMA legend Jose “Pele” Landi, Bodog Fight women's champion Tara LaRosa, and "MMA Barbie" Carina "Beauty But The Beast" Damm, as well as Canadians Todd Gowenberg and Tyler “TNT” Jackson.

Hall of Fame commentator Bob "The Colonel" Sheridan calls the action along side MMA experts Jeff Osborne and Paul "The Mauler" Lazenby. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Royce Gracie also makes a guest appearance, offering special insight and analysis on the fights.

Bodog Fight has signed on to become the presenting sponsor of Strikeforce at the Dome, Saturday Feb. 23 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA.

This event marks the fifth time that Bodog Fight has partnered with Strikeforce, after the Bodog Fight-sponsored Strikeforce tournament in San Jose, CA and the first-ever MMA event to be held at the world-famous Playboy Mansion.

"We are thrilled to be joining forces with Strikeforce again," said Bodog Fight creator Calvin Ayre. "Our organizations have proved in the past that we work well together, and we look forward to staging another top notch event for the great MMA fans in the Pacific Northwest."

Bodog Fight Presents: Strikeforce at the Dome will feature Bodog Fight's Jorge "Gamebred" Masvidal (13-2). The 23-year-old lightweight will try to notch his eighth consecutive victory when he takes on "Diamond" Ryan Healy (9-2-1).

In the main event, Bob "The Beast" Sapp (8-2-1), will collide with Jan "The Giant" Nortje (25-17), while Maurice "Big Mo" Smith (73-20-4) will battle fellow legend and six-time world kickboxing champion Rick "The Jet" Roufus (57-7).

The event will be broadcast live on hi-definition subscription network, HDNet. Doors open at 7:00 pm PST, with fights scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm PST.

Tickets for the event, priced at $150, $75 and $35, are on sale at all Ticketmaster locations (253-627-TIXS), the Tacoma Dome box office, and Ticketmaster.com.

Joe Rogan had a good time at Bodog Fight: Nick Thompson vs. John Troyer, Feb. 1 in Las Vegas.

Stand-up comic, UFC color commentator and former Fear Factor host Joe Rogan says that Bodog Fight: Nick Thompson vs. John Troyer was "awesome".

Friday, Feb. 1, Rogan showed up at the Las Vegas Sport Center to watch the fights with friend and jiu-jitsu wizard Eddie Bravo. Although he missed the undercard, Rogan was so impressed by the last two fights of the night. he took the time to write about it on mma.tv, known as "The Underground Forum" among mixed martial arts fans.

"I wanted to thank Bodog and the Myer brothers for hooking me up last night with tickets to the fights," he writes. "I only got to see the last two fights, but they were awesome."

Rogan says the match between Kaitlin Young (4-1-0) and Sarah Schneider (3-0-0) changed his opinion on women's mixed martial arts.

"I usually say that I don't really like to watch women fight, but after last night I'm never saying that again," he continues. "They put on an awesome show. Really technical, and they both showed an amazing amount of heart. We were all cheering and screaming through the whole bout. I sometimes forget how fun it is to just go to a fight and enjoy it without having to commentate, and this fight between these two tough, talented young ladies really made me appreciate that. Thank you!"

He was just as impressed by Bodog Fight welterweight champion Nick "The Goat" Thompson's (34-9-1) victory over Hook N Shoot champion John Troyer (8-1-0).

"The main even was an awesome display by Nick Thompson against a very capable challenger," Rogan says. "Nick looked amazing in the [Eddie] Alvarez fight, and he looked even better last night. He's one of those smart, extremely hard working dudes that just gets better with every outing, and it was a privilege to watch him perform.Great fights!"

Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas was a big deal, and not just for football fans, as mixed martial arts enthusiasts had two exciting events to watch before catching the biggest kickoff of the year on Sunday. Saturday night belonged to the octagon, as Antonio "Minotauro" Rodrigo Nogueira became the first person ever to win the Pride heavyweight belt and the UFC heavyweight belt. Despite being an underdog in the Bodog Sportsbook, Frank Mir also looked sharp as he caught wrestling superstar Brock Lesnar in a kneebar, just 90 seconds into the first round of their match at UFC 81: Breaking Point.

However, before Super Bowl Sunday and UFC Saturday, Bodog Fight rolled into town with their latest event. On Friday night at the Las Vegas Sport Center, fans and fighters showed up to catch a welterweight title match between Bodog Fight champion Nick "The Goat" Thompson and Hook N Shoot champion John Troyer, as well as the Bodog Fight debut of Kaitlin Young, who won the Hook N Shoot tournament in November with a series of brutal knockouts.

Faces in the packed crowd included UFC stars Joe Rogan, Sean Sherk, Joe Doerksen and Rich Clementi, who came out to catch the fights. While the UFC on Saturday night was saddled with some seriously questionable judges' decisions, the Bodog Fight event went off without a hitch, as all seven fights ended by either knockout or submission.

The main event of the night was also the bloodiest, as Troyer's wish for a brutal fight came true. After eating a few punches from the Bodog Fight champ, the undefeated fighter from Kentucky, Ill., shot in and snatched Thompson off the mat. Slamming him to the canvas, Troyer unleashed a violent series of punches from within the guard of "The Goat," one of which broke the tip of Thompson's nose.

Bodog Fight welterweight champion Nick "The Goat" Thompson was too much for John Troyer.

Friday, Feb. 1 in Las Vegas, NV, an excited crowd turned out at the Las Vegas Sport Center to watch Bodog Fight: Nick Thompson vs. John Troyer, a show packed with local MMA talent, along with some of the top fighters from around the United States.

In the main event, Bodog Fight welterweight champion Nick "The Goat" Thompson weathered an early storm by Kentucky fighter John Troyer, who fired across the ring at the opening bell. Slamming Thompson to the mat, Troyer looked strong and determined and badly bloodied the nose of "The Goat".

But Thompson was too experienced for the previously unbeaten Hook N Shoot champion. Escaping from the bottom position, he overwhelmed Troyer with strikes from the mount and half guard before finishing his opponent with an excruciating neck crank submission hold.

In other action, fast rising star Kaitlin Young suffered the first loss of her MMA career, as late replacement Sarah Schneider caught the Minnesota super-striker in a tight armbar in the second round of their 135-pound fight.

Using spinning backfists, poweful judo throws and smooth jiu-jitsu, Schneider drew Young out of her comfort zone and into a grappling match, where Young was in a constant stream of submission attacks until the final armbar forced a verbal surrender.

Other winners included Los Angeles fighter Chad George, Jackson Submission Fighting team member Angela Magana and Arizona heavy hitter Seth Bakycznski.
