National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Breeders' Cup

If you’re looking for an edge in Friday's Grade 2, $150,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga you should look no further than Bill Mott. He’s won the race five times and has two capable horses running in it this year. One of them is Courageous Cat, who has won his last two races including the A Gift Stakes at Belmont Park on July 19.

The other horse to watch out for in this deep field is Sal the Barber. He has two wins on turf, with one at Gulfstream from off the pace and the other a front-running dominance in the Don Jack Stakes at Belmont. He is 2 for 2 at the Hall of Fame distance of 1 1/8 miles. Others with a good chance to win are Straight Storey and Take the Points. Straight Storey is coming off of two consecutive second-place finishes.

Saratoga Horse Racing Odds: Amsterdam Stakes

A field of six is set to go off at the $150,000 Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga on Monday. Much anticipation is focused because it’s the return of early Kentucky Derby favorite Quality Road. He won three of his first four career starts, including the Florida Derby and Fountain of Youth (gr. II), and was the favorite for the Kentucky Derby until he was derailed by a pair of quarter cracks.

Three other graded stakes winners will be in the field to challenge Quality Road. Capt. Candyman Can, Custom for Carlos, and Everyday Heroes will all try to spoil his return on Monday. Capt. Candyman Can has five wins in eight starts and is coming off consecutive victories in the Bay Shore (gr. III) at Aqueduct, and the Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs. Everyday Heroes won his first four races and finished second in his last race.

Haskell Invitational Handicap Results

Super filly Rachel Alexandra has beaten the boys once again. She won the $1,250,000 Haskell Invitational on Saturday on a sloppy track with relative ease, finishing six lengths ahead of Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird. She ran the 1 1/8-mile track in 1:47:21, just two ticks off the track mark. Rachel Alexandra carried 117 pounds, five less than top-weighted Summer Bird, and paid $3, $2.20, and $2.10, while topping a $2 exacta of $10.40.

Owner Jess Jackson has indicated that he would like to run her once more against males this season in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga. He has also stated that she will not run in the Breeders’ Cup because she does not like the Synthetic surface at Santa Anita. Rachel Alexandra earned $700,000 for her Haskell win and pushed her lifetime earnings to $2,498,354. Along the way she’s compiled a record of 10-2-0 in 13 starts.

The Fourstardave Handicap Odds

Sunday’s 25^th running of the $100,000 Fourstardave Handicap will be a combination of veteran horses and younger upstarts. The 1 1/16 mile race features IEAH Stables’ Kip Deville as the morning-line favorite at 5-2 and is carrying high weight at 122 pounds. The six-year-old won his first start of the year, the Grade I Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap on February 1.

Cowboy Cal leads a group of talented four-year-olds in the race. Mambo Meister has won his last two starts and looks like an improving horse. Both wins were in overnight stakes at Calder Race Course. Stepping up in class are two more four-year-olds called Justennuffhumor and Mambo Meister.

Cosmonaut, a seven-year-old two-time winner of the Arlington Handicap (gr. IIIT) will be looking for payback. He finished second in the Arlington last year, and won the Fort Marcy Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Belmont Park a couple of days ago.

The Go for Wand Handicap Odds

The 56^th running of the Grade 1 $300,000 Go For Wand Stakes is set to get underway on Sunday August 2. Three horses are getting low odds, and two of them share the favorite position at 4-5. Cocoa Beach will carry 121 lbs, three more than the other favorite Seventh Street. Cocoa Beach had an impressive second-place finish behind Zenyatta last fall in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic.

Carrying 120 lbs is Miss Isella, who comes in close to the favorites at 9-5. She has recent wins in the Fleur de Lis and Louisville Distaff. At 8-1 is the Todd Pletcher colt Spritely. He will carry 114 lbs and will have Edgar Prado aboard in the mount.

The longshots are 20-1 Color Me Up and 15-1 Weathered. Weathered has wins this winter in the Rare Treat Handicap and Grade III Next Move this past winter at Aqueduct Race Track.

The Diana Stakes Odds

The $500,000 Diana Stakes will be the ninth race on Saratoga’s Saturday race card and should get underway around 5:14pm ET. A five-year-old gray mare named Forever Together will be looking to become the first horse since 1989 to repeat as the Diana Stakes Champion. She’s coming off a second-place finish in Belmont Park’s Just A Game Stakes on June 6; and she was also blocked by six horses going through the final turn. It will take an upset to stop her as the heavy favorite at 9-5.

The next best odds in the field is the 5-1 for My Princess Jess. She won last year’s Lake George Stakes at Saratoga and the May 2 Beaugay Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Belmont. Rutherienne, Criticism and Carribean Sunset are all getting decent odds at 6-1. The longshots are Quiet Meadow (15-1), Indescribable (20-1), Tejida (15-1), and Colina Verde (20-1).

Opening Day at Del Mar Means More Online Horse Racing at Bodog

As summer drags on, the lack of sports to bet on can really get to a person. Well, if you are into betting on the horses that is about to change.

The historic Del Mar track overlooking the Pacific Ocean opens for its 70th season today.

Today’s opening event (with a full field of ten horses) is the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes. That 1 1/6-mile turf race is for three-year-olds.

If you are betting online and not able to take advantage of the atmosphere at Del Mar, stick with Bodog to keep up-to-date on all of the races.

In total there will be more than $6 million in stakes races at Del Mar this season during its 37-day run.

Princess Rooney Handicap Odds

Some of the best female sprinters will be trying to win the big share of the $350,000 Princess Rooney Handicap this Saturday at Calder Race Course. The six-furlong race for three-year-olds and up has three notables that should be the favorites by Saturday. Expected to run are Indian Blessing, Game Face, and Dubai Majesty.

Indian Blessing is the 2008 Eclipse Award winning Top Female Sprinter, already winning multiple Grade 1 races. She will be the one to beat. She’s won the $250,000 Test Stakes and the $250,000 La Brea Stakes in 2008, as well as the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies event in 2007. Game Face has two wins this year, but has problems with a wet track. With thunderstorms in the forecast, track conditions should be in your decision-making process with her. Dubai Majesty has beaten Game Face and looks to be stepping up her level of competition recently.

Smile Sprint Handicap Odds

Benny the Bull will be looking to defend his Smile Sprint Handicap title this Saturday against a field of five rivals at Calder Race Course. The $350K G2 race was the last that Benny the Bull won before suffering an injury that prompted a short retirement for the 2008 Eclipse Award winning Top Sprinter. His trainers say that he’s completely recovered and hasn’t lost a step along the recovery trail.

How’s Your Halo finished second to Benny the Bull in last year’s Smile Sprint and will be looking for revenge this year, fresh off a four-length victory in the Ponche Handicap at Calder on June 13. Yesbyjimminy will be running in his first Smile Sprint, and should get decent odds. He’s coming off a fourth-place finish in the Ponche after an awkward start. His last win came in the Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap (G3) in December of 2008 at Calder.
