It all begins today against the Boston College Eagles in the opening round of the Midwest region.

The Trojans, who are 2.5-point faves, sure weren’t a lock to get in until they secured the automatic bid. They went 1-6 in February to fall to 7-9 in the Pac-10, before regrouping and winning their final two regular season games.

After missing the tournament altogether last season, the Eagles have returned to the field for the seventh time in the last nine years.

Wake was the underdog in all five previous matchups with Boston College following the Eagles’ defection from the Big East. The Wolfpack didn't have an answer for Eagles guard Tyrese Rice all game, and in the end lost to Boston College 82-65.

Rice scored 32 points off 12 of 18 shooting, adding four rebounds and six assists to his stellar performance.

The Eagles got their rebounding and from G/F Rakim Sanders. He had 14 rebounds along with 12 points.

North Carolina State did their best on offense to keep the contest close, but in the end they were overpowered by the Eagles' offensive attack. F/C J.J. Hickson led the Wolfpack with 20 points while guard Gavin Grant chipped in 15.

With this 17-point blowout the Eagles easily covered the -3.5 spread.

Freshman Kyle Singler keeps improving and Duke’s March Madness odds continue to go lower.

Singler, a 6-8 forward from Oregon, posted his second consecutive double-double and the No. 2-ranked Blue Devils pulled away from Boston College for a 90-80 victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C., on Saturday.

The Blue Devils failed to cover the point spread, which was 18.5 in their favor. The betting total was well over 151.

Singler followed a 14-point, 10-rebound performance against North Carolina with 24 points and 11 rebounds as Duke improved to 21-1 (9-0 ACC). A 17-2 run in the second half sealed the win after Boston College went into halftime thinking upset with a 42-41 lead. Senior DeMarcus Nelson had 23 points for the Devils, whose odds to win the NCAA Tournament are now 8/1; they were as high as 14/1 at the start of the season.

Guard Tyrese Rice, who is second in the ACC in scoring, led Boston College with 28 points.

No. 22 Notre Dame 86, No. 16 Marquette 83: The Fighting Irish upped their home-winning streak to 34 as Luke Harangody threw down 18 points against the Golden Eagles. Harangody sealed the win with four free throws in the last 26 seconds and the Irish avoided overtime when Marquette’s Dominic James missed a three-pointer at the horn. Notre Dame was favored by five despite being the lower-ranked team.
