Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday night will for once in recent months make headlines for what he actually does for a living, when he faces the great Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Betting odds list Mayweather Jr. at -350 to win this bout.

Mayweather will be taking on one of the best in the business after a layoff of nearly two years, although Marquez should be anywhere from eight to 12 pounds heavier than he's ever been come fight time.

Marquez has only been a 135-pound fighter for about a year and this bout will be contested at a 145 limit.

The Mexican is coming off wins over Juan Diaz and Joel Casamayor, arguably the best of his career, but he's also been hit more than at the lower weights.

It will be a heavily pro-Marquez crowd for the Mexican Independence Day-related promotion.

Rodney King faced Simon “The Renegade” Aouad last night at a Philadelphia Airport Ramada Inn. Spectators paid $25 to watch the pair beat the crap out of each other, while viewers at home were able to enjoy the fight as a Celebrity Boxing Match via pay-per-view.

Details of the fight have not yet been released, but it is reported this morning that King won the fight.

Forty-three-year-old Rodney King was famously beaten by police officers, which was caught on videotape. When the cops involved were acquitted by an all Caucasian jury, the ruling sparked the infamous 1992 L.A. riots, which killed 53, injured more than 2,000, and caused a billion dollars of damage. King recently completed a stint on Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab and Sober House. He overcame alcoholism and was one of the only success stories to emerge from the show, as some of the other participants have since relapsed.

Thirty-one-year-old Simon Aoud is a former cop who was removed from Philadelphia police department reportedly because of his conduct. He was tossed out of the force for apparently following a "shoot first, ask questions later" policy with regard to an intruder on his property.

"I know some people will see the irony here," said King, of the fight. "But I would have fought anyone who was worthy. I take this very seriously. Never felt better, physically and in the mind."

This story seems to get weirder and more tragic as time goes on.

An autopsy indicates former boxing champion Arturo Gatti may have committed suicide, been accidentally killed, or murdered, according to a Brazilian newspaper that said it obtained a copy of the coroner’s initial findings.

Police have said they are certain Gatti’s 23-year-old wife strangled the boxer with her purse strap as he drunkenly slept July 11, but the autopsy report raises some doubts.

The autopsy report, according to the newspaper, also said that “murder or accidental death” could not be ruled out. There was no explanation for “accidental death.”

Police arrested Rodrigues on suspicion of murdering the former two-division champion. She maintains her innocence and is being held in a prison in Recife.

A visitation for Gatti was scheduled for yesterday at Maison Funeraire Magnus Poirier in his adopted hometown of Montreal, with a funeral today at Notre Dame De La Defense.

Originally scheduled to fight David Haye, who had to pull out of the fight due to an alleged hand injury, Wladimir Klitschko will fight Ruslan Chagaev on Saturday night for the IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.

Klitschko comes into this one as a -800 favorite, while Chagaev checks in at +500 for the upset.

The fight will be held at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. It is also for The Ring magazine heavyweight title.

Klitschko has lost just three times in 55 outings and is unbeaten since 2004. He's on a 10-fight winning streak and will enjoy the bulk of support in Germany, the land he now calls home.

However, this is Klitschko's first real fight since he faced Sultan Ibragimov in February of 2008.

Chagaev is a southpaw with a fine left hook, not unlike Corrie Sanders who destroyed Klitschko in two rounds back in 2003.

The match was called off on Friday, leaving fans and bettors wondering what could have been.

Finnish officials said Chagaev was unable to fulfill the Finnish Boxing Federation's medical requirements and gave no further details.

Local media reports said Chagaev had a hepatitis infection and that all 11 bouts on the card were cancelled.
Saturday's bout at 15,000-sear Hartwall Arena would have been only the second world title fight in the Finnish capital. Davey Moore of the U.S. knocked out Olli Maki of Finland in 1962 to retain his world featherweight title.

It's the third rematch between the pair that's failed to start since Chagaev gave Valuev his only pro defeat by decision in April 2007.

Manny Pacquiao cemented his claim to being the best pound-for-pound boxer Saturday night with a spectacular performance that ended with Ricky Hatton sprawled out helplessly on the canvas after a devastating left hand to the head late in the second round.

Coming off a dominating victory over Oscar De La Hoya, Pacquiao was even better against Hatton, knocking him down two times in the first round before finally stopping him with a vicious left hand that dropped Hatton for good in the 140-pound title bout.

Pacquiao was a + 200 favorite, but few thought Hatton would go easily. His only loss came when he was stopped in the 10th round by Floyd Mayweather Jr., and he built a career and a reputation as a tough and aggressive fighter who wore his opponents down.

Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 knockouts) earned $12 million for the fight, while Hatton (45-2) was paid $8 million. Get your boxing lines in the Bodog Sportsbook today.

It was short and sweet, kids. Manny Pacquiao beat Ricky "The Hit Man" Hatton by TKO just a second to go into the second round.

After twice knocking him down during the first round, Pacquiao surprised Hatton with a left hook to the side of the head, knocking the English fighter down and ending the match. Hatton went down and didn't move for several minutes as medical officials rushed to his aide.

"I'm surprised that this was so easy," Pacquaio said. "But I did work hard in March in training camp. There was nothing personal between us. I was just doing my job. This was as big for me as the [Oscar] De La Hoya victory."

Added his trainer, Freddie Roach: "It was no surprise. Ricky Hatton pumps his hand before his throws a punch. He's a sucker for the right hook. And that's what we worked on the entire camp."

Pacquiao earned $12 million for the fight and Hatton was paid $8 million. Make your own money by betting on boxing in the Bodog Sportsbook now!

Standing outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, the "Golden Boy" of boxing announced that he was finally calling it quits.

"I've come to the conclusion that it's over," Oscar De La Hoya told an impressive crowd of fans, including comedian George Lopez and Golden Globe winner Mickey Rourke. "It's over inside the ring for me."

De La Hoya lost his last fight four months ago against Manny Pacquiao and won his last title back in May 2006, beating Ricardo Mayorga.

"This is the love of my life, boxing is my passion, boxing is what I was born to do," the 36-year-old boxer said. "When I can't do it anymore, when I can't compete at the highest level, it's not fair. It's not fair to me, it's not fair to the fans, it's not fair to nobody."

To his credit, De La Hoya defeated 17 world champions and has won 10 world titles in six different weight classes throughout his career. He has also generated more money than any other boxer in the history of the sport.

Paul Williams will be looking to establish himself as the most dangerous man in the middleweight division by beating 37-year-old Ronald "Winky" Wright on April 11 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Experts expect Williams to have an easy time with the aging Wright, who does not match up well against the 82-inch reach of Williams.

Williams has victories over former champions Antonio Margarito, Carlos Quintana, and Verno Phillips. At 6ft 2in, Williams is one of the more active fighters in the division, and throws more punches per round than the average middleweight fighter. Wright is not known for power, and usually looks to out-box his opponents. He does have wins over Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidad, and Ike Quartey, but he’s also coming off a 21-month layoff.

Current boxing odds have Williams as the heavy favorite at -200, while Wright is the underdog at +150.

Timothy Bradley will be putting his 23-0 undefeated record on the line against Kendall Holt, who is no slouch at 25-2. Bradley will enter the ring as the -170 favorite, while bettors who pick Holt to win will get odds of +140. The round prop is set at a high 11 ½ rounds. Both the ‘over’ and ‘under’ bets for rounds are at -120.

Holt will have a big edge when it comes to height and reach, but he’s been knocked out twice and knocked down eight times in his career and may not match up well against the relentless jab of Bradley. Holt will need to stick and move for 12 rounds to have a decent chance at winning, but he’s demonstrated that he’s capable of doing just that.
